Two generations of my family have walked through the doors of Stringfellow Memorial Hospital to clock in for work. Wednesday was the last time we clocked out.

For the past 40 years, the dietary unit at Stringfellow Memorial Hospital has prepared diet specific meals for the clients of Meals on Wheels.

We kept coming back to animal issues,” Gail DaParma said. “We talked about maybe creating a new nonprofit. Then I solicited people in the community to come to an initial meeting.”

Representatives observed the need for masonry repointing in the remaining facade work, fixing isolated areas of loose carved marble elements, fixing cracks and using appropriately-sized backing materials at new sealant joints.

“When I was a little girl, I lived in Constantine apartments. There were seven of us. In the summer time we didn't have food. In the ’70s, the city of Anniston — even back then — fed the kids in the park.”
