Civic club awards grants to organizations who serve children

The Kiwanis Club of Anniston awarded grants to nonprofit organizations that have a positive impact on children in Calhoun County on Thursday.

The first Kiwanis Club was founded in Detroit, Mich., in 1915 as a place for businessmen to network. Four years later, in 1919, the international organization shifted its focus to helping children.

Anniston’s Kiwanis Club, which dates back to 1920, continued the tradition of helping kids on Thursday when the service club awarded grants to local charities and nonprofits whose work directly affects children in a positive way.
